Aldershot Town manager Scott Davies is targeting a strong performance when his side host Carlisle United this Saturday. The Shots, sitting seventh in the National League with 18 points from 11 games, welcome the 16th-placed Cumbrians to The EBB Stadium for a 3pm kick-off.

Davies has watched several of Carlisle's games and believes they are a better side than their league position indicates. "It’s a great game to have against a big football club, with probably one of the strongest squads in the division," he said. The manager pointed to Carlisle's poor finishing and good opposition goalkeeping as reasons for their recent results, adding that head coach Rob Elliot's frustrations in interviews show they have underperformed.

Building on recent performances

Davies wants his team to start fast and play exciting football. He took confidence from aspects of Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at AFC Hornchurch, where Aldershot completed more passes and had 13 or 14 shots. "The lads know they’ve done pretty well so far," Davies stated, "but we don’t want to rest on our laurels." The team's recent form reads two wins, one draw and two defeats from their last five outings.

Opponent context

Carlisle arrive with defender Tom Anderson on loan from Shrewsbury Town and may be boosted by the return of striker Micah Obiero from international duty with Kenya. Elliot has said there is a possibility the 25-year-old could rejoin the squad in time. Davies expects Carlisle to travel in numbers and is anticipating a bumper crowd for the fixture.

The game will be shown live in Brunton Park's Northern Competitions Fan Zone from 1:30pm.
